Obituary for David Allen Smith

David Allen Smith was born to John (Red) and Edith (Maxwell) Smith on December 27, 1953. He grew up in Tabor, Iowa and graduated from Fremont-Mills High School in 1972 and was a member of Buck’s Bruisers, the 1971 football team that set state records for the most shut-outs in a row. He married Cheryl Ryun on September 6, 1975, and was the father of two sons, Shawn and Justin Smith.

Dave worked at Glenwood State Hospital school until he retired. He was a member of the Malvern Volunteer Fire Department, was the head of the Malvern Park Board for several years, ran chains at Malvern’s football games, coached many youth leagues for football, coached junior high teams at Malvern Public Schools, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Dave is survived by his wife, Cheryl Smith of Tabor, IA; sons, Shawn (Stacey) Smith of Hooper, NE; Justin (Christine) Smith of Omaha, NE; five grandkids, Breanna, Ellie, Jacob, Tessa, and Ryland Smith; brother, John (Charm) Smith of Tabor, IA; sisters, Martha Smith, Marsha Abercrombie, and Cindy Radford of Glenwood, IA; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and infant brother, Robert Warren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA with Pastor Becky Sells officiating. Visitations will be open after 5:00 PM Tuesday with the family greeting friends from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Tuesday at the Crawford- Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA. Memorials will go to the family and interment will be in the Tabor, IA Cemetery. The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA is in charge of arrangements.
