Obituary for Deanna Jeanne Countryman

Deanna Jeanne “Jeannie” Countryman of Sidney, born to Ennis and Ethel Doty, concluded her 16 year battle with Dementia, Friday May 15, 2020, four days before her 76th birthday. Although this disease gradually consumed her, Jeannie’s family kept comfort in the abundant & unconditional love she lavished upon them.

Jeannie was always a country girl at heart. She had a gentle compassion for her animals, genuine fondness for others and immense passion for her family. Jeannie graduated from Sidney High School in 1962, loved playing basketball and cheerleading. That same year she was crowned Sidney Iowa Rodeo Queen.

In 1963 she married Cal Countryman and over the next 30 years they lived together in Iowa Falls, Onawa and Sidney. They had two children, Danny (Lisa) Countryman of Sidney and Launa (Jeff) Hinrichs of Ankeny. Jeannie adored her grandchildren, Kevin, Kody, and Kristen Countryman and Abby, Samantha, Maggie and William Hinrichs. She also had 7 great grandchildren.

Jeannie loved to garden and make strawberry jam every summer. She was an officer in the Eastern Star and church treasurer. She was a member of the Sidney American Legion Auxiliary. She took most pride in being a Stay at Home Mother but later worked in the front offices of Farm Bureau and Southwest Iowa Home Health. Jeannie also helped run the Sidney Legion Club and volunteered for multiple duties within the Rodeo Queen Board. She was also an avid fan of Joe Montana and the NFL.

In 1995, Jeannie was reunited with a high school friend, Wayne Hardy. They spent much time together as their relationship bloomed and bonded the last 25 years. Wayne unconditionally cared for her until her death. If you ever passed her by, you would have been greeted with a friendly hello and no doubt that beautiful smile.

There was private interment in the Sidney, IA Cemetery with Pastor Bob Milliken officiating. The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA is in charge of local arrangements.
