Obituary for Esther Lucille Morris

Esther Lucille Morris was born November 20th, 1925 in Nebraska City NE. She was the daughter of Ernest & Margaret (Neels) Griepenstroh. She grew up on a farm on the Steam Wagon Road west of Nebraska City. She graduated from County School District #17 in 1939. She helped her family on the farm & worked at several different jobs in Nebraska City. As an orchard worker, she was proud to have picked a basket of apples that was presented to Dwight Eisenhower while he was visiting Nebraska City. Esther married Harold Herman Morris on May 21, 1953 at Bethel United Church of Christ in Nebraska City. They made their home on a farm 1 mile east of Lorton. To this union, two children were born, Don & LeAnn. Esther worked alongside her husband Harold on the farm. She did even more so, when Harold was injured in a farm accident. Harold continued to farm, and Esther played an important role as his partner. She worked hard doing the livestock chores which consisted of cattle, hogs & chickens. In the earlier years, she also milked cows. She sold cream and eggs at the local grocery store in Talmage. Esther always planted a large garden & spent many hours canning the produce. Family, the farm and church were everything to Esther. She was especially proud of her four grandchildren & six great-grandchildren. She was also a devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church of Talmage. When Harold passed away in 1967, Esther remained living on the farm still staying busy with life on the farm. In 2011 due to health reasons, Esther moved to the Ambassador Assisted Living in Nebraska City. She remained living there, until her death on December 8, 2018 at the age of 93 and 18 days. Those left to cherish her memory include son, Don Morris and wife Mary of Lorton NE; daughter, LeAnn Mannschreck and husband Craig of Stromsburg NE; grandchildren, Luke (Chiona) Morris of Syracuse NE; Lindsay (Scott) Theisen of Lincoln NE; Adam (Candy) Mannschreck of Parker CO; Holly (John) Morris-Dietz of Papillion NE; great grandchildren, Kyler Theisen, Callie & Harper Mannschreck, Violet & Eve Morris, Jack Dietz; sisters, Laurene Bando, Ruth Viox; sister in law, Kathleen Griepenstroh. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, parents Ernest & Margaret Griepenstroh, brother Arlen Griepenstroh; mother-in-law and father-in-law, William & Elisa Morris; brothers-in-law, Johnny Bando, Fred Viox & Lynn Morris; sisters-in-law, Blanche Micke, Marjorie Conaway, Leola Bischoff & Evelyn Schmidt.
