Obituary for Gerald Inman

Gerald Dean “Curly” Inman, 90, of Shenandoah, formerly of Randolph, died Thursday, Nov. 1, at Windsor Manor in Shenandoah. He was born Oct. 23, 1928, on a farm near Randolph, son of Clarence and Chlorus Hayes Inman. He married Betty Campany on May 17, 1950, in Shenandoah. To this union, three children were born, Ken, Larry and Karen.

Gerald grew up on the family farm, attended country school and graduated from Randolph High School. He was a longtime member of the Randolph Fire Department, a Little League coach, member of the Randolph School Board, Cub Scout leader and member of the Masonic Lodge. He lived in Randolph, IA, Casa Grande, AZ and Shenandoah, IA. He worked as a carpenter and with Larry as a heavy equipment operator.

Gerald was a man of many talents and interests. With a delightful sense of humor, he always had a trick up his sleeve (and a Snickers bar in the freezer) to entertain his grandchildren. When he was not out in nature, camping, hunting or fishing, he could be found in his shop working on a project. Somewhat of an inventor, Gerald was able to find beauty in everything -- from making a penny into a necklace or a gourd into a birdhouse. He taught himself lapidary and enjoyed faceting stones for his wife, Betty, as well as family and friends. He enjoyed tending to his garden, woodworking and “witching” (finding water.) Married for 68 years, Betty was the love of his life and he always enjoyed dancing with her. Together they spent 28 years wintering in Arizona, where he enjoyed playing cards, shooting pool and was known to his many friends as “Curly.”

Gerald is survived by two sons, Ken (Cindy) Inman and Larry (Penny) Inman; a son-in-law, John Guess; seven grandchildren, Tiffany (Jon) Kerr, Alison (Greg) Topp, Kristin Guess, Jaime (R.J.) Kammandel, Josh (April) Inman, Dustin Guess and Tyler (Jordan) Inman; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Karen Inman Guess; and two brothers, Berkley and Byron Inman.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Randolph, IA with Rev. Jan Phillips officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation and interment of ashes will follow in the Randolph, IA Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Randolph Hometown Pride or Randolph Fire and Rescue. The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, IA is in charge of arrangements.
