Obituary for Todd Charles Chapman

Todd Charles Chapman, 48, of Sidney passed away suddenly September 14, 2020 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Todd was born March 16, 1972 to Betty Chapman (Blevins) and Timmothy Chapman in Des Moines, IA. He attended school in Des Moines, Winterset, Dexter and Sidney. He later continued his education with Ford Motor and became a Ford certified diesel technician as well as an ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician. Todd was united in marriage on May 13, 1995 to Becky Cook. To their union, four children were born who were always an immense source of pride for him. Todd worked for Bill Nissen Ford, Hawkins Marsh Ford, McMullen Ford, and Tincher Ford before buying Red Line Oil in 2003 and turning the business into his own. He was active in the community, volunteering with the Sidney Booster Club, Cub Scouts and served for several years on the Sidney City Council.

Todd had a lifelong love of cars and spent hours enjoying anything about them. From watching car shows, car auctions, reading car magazines, restoring cars and even sometimes wrecking cars. He especially enjoyed watching his son’s football games and regularly quoting Step Brothers and Talladega Nights. Todd understood the importance of sitting down and watching life happen around him; he always cherished simple, quiet moments spent with those he loved. He was well known to many for his big heart, big hugs and generosity. For those closest to him, we will be holding on to the memories of his goofy sense of humor, his rendition of the song Sloppy Joe, his regular car rides to enjoy a beautiful day, and his unwavering sense of protection.

Todd is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Chapman, his sister, Meri Wolfe, and his daughter, Elizabeth Chapman. He is survived by his children, Emma Chapman of Kingston, IA, Elise Chapman of Washington D.C and Ethan Chapman of Sidney; former spouse, Becky Chapman of Sidney and a morbidly obese cat, Charlie.

Memorial services will be 10:30 AM Friday, September 18, 2020 at the Sidney United Faith Church with Rev. Leah Elrod officiating. Visitation will be open after 5:00 PM Thursday with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA. A memorial fund has been established and interment of ashes will be in the Sidney, IA Cemetery. The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA is in charge of arrangements.
