Obituary for William (Bill) Rickabaugh

William “Bill” Porter Rickabaugh, Jr., 73, of Tabor, Iowa passed away at home on January 24, 2021, having conquered Covid but yielding to time. Dad was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on January 25, 1947, to William Porter Rickabaugh, Sr. and Doris Irene (Stogdill) Rickabaugh.

He graduated from Fremont-Mills High School (’65) and Northwest Missouri State University (’69). After passing the CPA exam, and would go on to receive advanced degrees from the University of Nebraska Omaha (MBA) and Creighton University (JD). However, his chief accolade came September 1, 1967, when he wed his high school sweetheart Kira (Doan) Rickabaugh.

After school, Dad returned to Tabor, Iowa, to manage his family’s business Rickabaugh Building Products. A growing family would later cause him to venture from the lumberyard into corporate accountancy, where he enjoyed success. Until making another change to be an officer in Cornerstone Energy and later a partner in Encore Energy.

Outside of work, he dedicated his time and energy to his family and his faith. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he spent countless hours serving others, fulfilling responsibilities, and sharing the gospel. His dedication to God was only rivaled by the love and attention he showed our family. Dad didn’t have hobbies; he had kids. The only games he would attend were the ones that we participated in. Our interests became his interests, and his dedication only deepened with his grandchildren.

Dad was preceded in death by his parents, Port and Doris Rickabaugh, and grandparents, Herbert and Gertrude Stogdill. Dad is survived by his wonderful wife Kira, their doting children Jared (Tia) Rickabaugh of Shelley, Idaho; Jason (Diana) Rickabaugh of Riverton, Utah; Jeni Evans of Kansas City, Missouri; Joseph Rickabaugh of Tabor, Iowa; Julie (David) Davis of Tabor, Iowa; 14 grandchildren, his sister Cindy (Kenneth) Inman of Papillion, Nebraska; uncle and aunt, Gerald and Lenora Stogdill. He is also survived by loving in-laws, nieces, and a host of longtime friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 30, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Glenwood, Iowa with Bishop Ammon Mitchell officiating.
