Obituary for Gale D. Greedy

GALE DENE GREEDY, age 86 of Sidney, IA passed away peacefully at the Ambassador Health Center in Sidney on Tuesday, January 28, 2020. Gale was born October 3, 1933 to Cecil C. Greedy and Hazel A. (Burson) Greedy. He was born and raised east of Sidney on the family farm in Prairie Township along with his twin brother, Dale.

Gale and his brother attended the Riverside County School just south of the family farmstead. They would ride their pony or bicycles about a mile and a half down the road (know as Greedysville road) to and from school each day. After graduating from 8th Grade at Riverside Country School, Gale continued his schooling at the Sidney High School in Sidney, IA where he graduated with the class of 1952. After graduating, Gale continued working on the family farm with his brother and father.

Gale was united in marriage to Doris Marie Carnes on March 23, 1957 at the United Methodist Parsonage in Sidney, IA. To this union four children were born: Lana, Carey, Shelly and Kim.

After selling the family farm years later, Gale went into trucking and hauling fertilizer for the Sidney Elevator. He then purchased the Sidney Laundromat and Apartments. Gale also enjoyed being on a tractor and mowing at a tree farm west of Sidney. He also helped his wife, Doris, do some Janitorial work at the Sidney United Methodist church. Gale enjoyed sports of all kinds. He especially enjoyed watching his grandsons and great grandson play High School Football on Friday nights. He loved and worked as an Official at the Sidney, IA Championship Rodeo since he was in the 8th grade taking care of livestock and maintaining the Rodeo Grounds. He never missed a performance.

Gale loved being around his family, especially his brother, grandsons and great grandkids. He was very close to his nephew, Cliff and his niece, Julie. There was never a dull moment when we were all together. We will all hold dear sweet memories of a great Husband, Father, Grandpa, Uncle and Brother.

Preceding Gale in passing were his parents, one infant sister, a son Carey Greedy and a daughter, Shelly Greedy. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Doris Greedy of Sidney; children, Lana (Ron) Thompson of Farragut, IA and Kim Greedy of Sidney; 3 grandsons, Shawn Thompson and his 3 children, Tate, Sadie and Ellie; Ben Thompson and wife Stephanie and their 4 children, Gracie, Colton, Natalie and Bentley; Andy Thompson and wife Rebecca and their children, Calen, Kaden, Jacob and Preston; a twin brother, Dale Greedy of Tabor, IA; several nieces, nephews and other extended relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at the United Faith Church in Sidney, IA with Pastor Leah Elrod officiating along with Pastor Darrell Hopp of the Bartlett Community Church. Visitations will be open after 5:00 PM Tuesday at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA. Memorials will go the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad and interment will be in the Sidney, IA Cemetery.
