Obituary for Kevin Craig Fichter

Kevin Craig Fichter, age 62 of Sidney, IA died on September 9, 2020 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Kevin was born on November 22, 1957 in Nebraska City, NE, the son of Robert Eugene “Gene” and Anna Lou (Greenwood) Fichter.

Kevin graduated from Fremont-Mills High School in 1976, and in 1980 received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO. During high school Kevin worked at Jim’s Food Mart in Tabor, IA learning all aspects of the business, and became the manager of Jim’s Food Mart in Sidney, IA in January of 1980. He purchased Kevin’s Grocery Barn in Sidney, IA in 1992, and enjoyed becoming friends with all of his employees and customers. Kevin went to work for Earl May Seed and Nursery Center in 2010 and held several positions, the most current being Quality Control/ Dock Supervisor at the Green Goods Distribution Center, where he thoroughly enjoyed working outdoors with all the plants and flowers.

Kevin married Rebecka “Becky” Davis on August 30, 1980 in Tabor. To this union were born four children; Erin, Nicko, Beep and Molli. Kevin enjoyed spending time with his family playing cards, board games and just having quality family time. He enjoyed attending all of his children’s school and sporting events. Kevin belonged to several committees and boards in the community. Anyone who knew him knew he was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan. He made at least one trip a year to his brother Steve’s in St. Louis so that they could attend a ballgame together

Kevin was a member of Tabor First Christian Church. He was a quiet example of how to live your life for Christ. Kevin believed actions spoke louder than words and wanted everyone to know the love of God.

Survivors include his wife, Becky of Sidney, IA; daughters, Erin (Mario) Paredes of Bellevue, NE, Beth “Beep” Fichter and Molli Fichter, both of Sidney, IA; sons Nickolaus Fichter, stationed in Manama, Bahrain; “adopted” son, Beau Oliver of Sidney, IA; grandchildren, Luis Paredes, Nazaret Paredes and Baby Paredes on the way; “adopted” grandchild, Newton Oliver; mother, Anna Lou Fichter of Sidney, IA; brothers, Dennis Fichter of Tabor, IA, Steve (Diana) Fichter of Lake St. Louis, MO and Norman Fichter of Rockport, MO; Father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rodney and Martha Davis of Nebraska City, NE; many other relatives and friends. Kevin was preceded in death by his father; sisters-in-law Doris Fichter and Rayann West; and brother-in-law, John Davis.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, September 14, 2020 at the First Christian Church in Tabor, IA with Pastor Don Ludwick, Pastor Eric Koenig and Pastor Roger Charley officiating. Visitations will be open after 5:00 PM Sunday with the family will greeting friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA. Interment will be in the Sidney, Iowa Cemetery, and memorials will go to ONE LIFE ONE PURPOSE. The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Sidney, IA is in charge of arrangements.
