Mary Louise Winkler entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 9th, 2020 in Bellevue, Nebraska.

Born on a farm North of Sidney, Iowa August 19, 1923, she was the firstborn child of Clifford and (Madge) Pauline Liggett Winkler. When she was seven, her sister, Ruth Catherine was born, completing the family.

Mary Louise attended rural country school through the 8th grade and continued her education, graduating from Sidney High School. Following graduation, she attended Peru State College for a year, quitting to enter the workforce because of World War II. She went to work for United Airlines, training as a radio and teletype operator communicating with the pilots. After the war, she was able to secure a job with United and for a time worked again in communications. Through the years, she grew with the job, obtaining additional training and education, retiring after 40 years employed in the computer department; most of these years she lived in Denver, Colorado and the San Francisco Bay area.

Working for United, Mary Louise was able to travel extensively; she visited many countries around the world, always enjoying experiencing new cultures, learning new things and trying new food.

In 1983, Mary Louise was able to take an early retirement and returned to her parent’s farm after the death of her father. During these years she enjoyed a slower paced life; attending the Methodist church in Sidney, planting and caring for a large garden, going to auctions and antique stores and working outdoors. She decided to move back to California in 1998 where she renewed friendships and once again enjoyed living in the city. In 2013, she moved to Bellevue, Nebraska to be closer to family.

Mary Louise was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister. She is survived by three nieces, Ellen (Dan) McClure of Clarinda, Iowa, Emily (Don) Nease of Denver, Colorado and Lori Jo (Mark) Lawson of Bellevue, Nebraska, brother-in-law Joe Farquhar of College Springs, Iowa and three great nieces, Catherine Nease, Patricia Nease and Amanda Lawson.

The family has chosen cremation with services to be held at a later time and will be announced. Interment of ashes will be in the Sidney, IA.
