Obituary for Doris Laverne Crunk

Doris “Laverne” (Martin) Crunk, age 91, of Nebraska City went to be with her Lord on Monday, August 5, 2019 in Lincoln, Nebraska surrounded by her family. Laverne was born on September 5, 1927 in Murray, Nebraska to George and Opal (Kaiser) Martin. She was raised on the family farm in Union, Nebraska. As the daughter of a school teacher, she understood the importance of education. She graduated from Union School in 1945 and continued her education at Creighton University nursing school, graduating in 1948. Her nurses training came in quite handy later in life as she was raising a large family. She was untied in marriage to Louis J. Crunk on April 23, 1948 in Union, Nebraska. She remained a dedicated, loving wife of 71 years to Louis until she uttered her final words. She was a longtime member of the Union United Methodist Church.

Together, she and Louis traveled the world and along the way had six sons and one daughter. Their children were raised to understand the importance of hard work and family. Laverne’s greatest joy was being surrounded by her large, loving family. She enjoyed a home filled with the laughter of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. All who stopped by knew there was a treat waiting for them on the cabinet in the dining room and a warm hug and kiss when they left. Throughout the years, she enjoyed working outside on her flowers and tending to her garden on the family farm in Union. In retirement, she and Louis enjoyed traveling and being active Husker Volleyball Match Club members.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Louis J. Crunk, Don and Sharon Crunk of Nebraska City; Ron and Chris Crunk of Nebraska City; Cindy Dancosse of Ottowa, KS; Mike and Sharon Crunk of Nebraska City; Doug Crunk of Peoria, Arizona; Jeff and Leah Crunk of Nebraska City; George and Helen Crunk of Union. Grandchildren include Tina (Dave) Synder of Nebraska City; Monte Crunk of Nebraska City; Melissa (Cameron) Soester of Seward; Troy Crunk of Lincoln; Robert Dancosse of Ottawa, Kansas; Elisha (Skip) Briggs of Bluffton, South Carolina; Logan (Jess) Crunk of Nebraska City; Jill (Kyle) Owen of Nebraska City; Aimee (John) Martin of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Lincoln Crunk of Peoria, Arizona; Chief Petty Officer Ben (Melissa) Crunk of Kings Bay Naval Base, Georgia; Lynnette (Tyler) Wolff, Ekalaka, Montana; Amber Crunk of Lincoln; and Rebecca Crunk of Weeping Water. Great-grandchildren include McKenzie, Lauren, Braden, Brecken, Nathan, Ana, Aiden, Adreanna, Molly, Brooke, Briar, Breanne, Hailey, Alex, Gordon, Tate, Fletcher, and Gracie. She is also survived by one great-great-grandchild, Oliver.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Opal Martin, her brother Don Martin, son-in-law Bob Dancosse, and great grandchildren Gunner and Sierra Snyder.
